The action takes place in the kitchen. Here, among the pots, pans, ladles and colanders, hidden in clubs of fragrant steam stands Gioachino Rossini, master of magical music and… cookery. We are in Rossini’s workshop, his creative kitchen in its literal meaning. Singing arias from popular operas, he deftly juggles with knives, cutting truffles and herbs. It is a well-know cyclus of piano pieces called “Hors d'oeuvres” – “Hot appetizers”. Maestro is accompanied by a choir of merry scullions. They beat out music rhythm with the spoons and play on plates and glasses, like on the xylophone. Rossini’s magic animates even vegetables: they sing “Trio Tomatoe” and cavatina “Salatoe”.
