Plot synopsis
Two lives, two destinies are at the center of this film. The simple soldier of the Tsarist army Vostrikov who could hardly read and write (Nikolai Rybnikov) became, since the establishment of Soviet power, a devoted fighter in the revolution, he is now a general of the Soviet army and respected by all . While Prince Nachtchekine (Vyacheslav Tikhonov), a former guard officer who fought against Soviet power, ended up emigrating to find himself a waiter in a restaurant.
In 1917, Prince Nashchekin had underestimated the soldier's love for his sister Irina. Even when Vostrikov dismantled a monarchist plot and put the prince in jail, he allowed Irina to see her brother. And now, in the port of Marseille, the two men meet: General Vostrikov, who has come as a tourist, and the former prince and white emigrant, Sergei Nashchekin, a waiter in a restaurant.
