Plot synopsis
Hermann is in love but he himself does not know which person he loves. Prince Eletsky announces his engagement. His fiancée, Liza, is in love with Hermann. She is the ward of an old countess. Tomski says that this old countess once in Paris had discovered how to win three cards with three cards, and he specifies that according to a vision that the countess had, she will receive a fatal blow from the third who will want to forcefully remove her secret. Hermann is very impressed. He enters Liza's room and obtains his complicity. We then hear the interlude The sincerity of the shepherdess. Liza gives Hermann the key to the countess's room. Hermann enters and demands that the countess give him the secret of the cards. He threatens her with a pistol and she falls dead. Back in his room, Hermann sees the ghost of the countess who discovers the three playing cards. Hermann then meets Liza and mockingly invites her to the game room. In desperation Lisa throws herself into the river. In the game room, the atmosphere is noisy and cheerful. Arrives Hermann who goes to the game and wins twice in a row a large sum of money. The third time no one wants to play against him, however, Eletski ends up accepting. The card Hermann plays is the Queen of Spades, not the one he was supposed to play. Hermann then sees the ghost of the countess and stabs himself.
