A young expert Volodya Batanin comes to work at a small coal plant in the North. Both his new chief and his daughter like him. In course of time it becomes clear that the chief and his subordinate differ in views: one is trying to conceal the drawbacks so that the plant would be considered advanced, the other, Volodya, stands in favor of honesty in everything. The work collective supports the young man and Alla tries to reconcile her father and husband.
