Plot synopsis

Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan is as vast as a sea. On all sides it is surrounded by mountains. On the north shore stands the isolated building with white walls of a school. The professor of Russian literature, Talip, no longer works there, he is retired. But Russian literature can be retired, Talip thinks. And don't the seagulls that fly over Lake Issyk-Kul look like Chekhov's seagulls? Talip persuades the students to put on a show based on Chekhov's play "The Seagull" in Russian. But it seems that no one, apart from the majestic Issyk-Kul, who serves without protesting as a natural setting for the play, shares Talip's idea. An elderly marginal, fanatically attached to his idea, alone and enraged, pitiful and energetic, is ready to fight for his idea at the cost of his life.
