Plot synopsis
On the death of his father Svyatoslav I, the young prince Vladimir of Novgorod, heir to the throne, goes into exile across the icy sea to escape from his half-brother the traitor Yaroplolik who did not hesitate to assassinate his other brother Oleg and conquered the Viking territory of Kievan Russia. An old warrior named Sveneld convinces the prince to form an armada in the hope of retaking Novgorod from his brother and facing the Byzantine troops. Prince Vladimir eventually took power in Russia and converted the country to Orthodoxy. The film is inspired by the Chronicle of bygone times, annals of the 12th century.
