A film with a form that is rare for documentary; it approaches tragicomedy. That said, the ironic setting does not keep director Pavel Kogan from dealing with serious matters. Starting with a portrait of the labor conditions in a candy factory in Leningrad, he emphasizes the need for perestroika. He analyzes the difference between current techniques and modern technological developments, the failing management, but above all the unhealthy and indifferent attitude of the employees towards their work and fate. With Summer Will Soon Be There, Kogan calls for concrete reform.
