Biography
Victor Aristov (whose real name was Arestov) was born on June 9, 1943 in Kyrgyzstan. In 1968 he completed correspondence studies at the director training faculty of the Leningrad Institute of Theater, Music and Cinema.
As an assistant director or second director, Victor Arestov worked with Ili Averbakh, Alexei German, Sergei Mikaelian and Yossef Kheïfits. He also pursued a career as an actor. He directed a few short films and screenplays before becoming famous for his film La Poudre, which evokes the last world war. His film Satan won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 1991. He died while making Rain on the Ocean which was finished by Youri Mamine.
