The film tells about the joint struggle against the Nazis by Soviet citizens and Italian resistance fighters. Five Soviet partisans received Italy's highest military awards "For military prowess". However, most of their fallen comrades were left lying in cemeteries under gravestones without names and surnames: at best, their Italian comrades knew the partisan nicknames "Soviets". One of these graves, in the mountains above Verona, in the town of San Zeno di Montagna, served as the choice of a life's work for the grandson of the Italian partisan Massimo Eccli, an enthusiastic historian and philologist by education.
