The once green Nogai steppe in northern Dagestan is turning into a vast desert. A simple woman from a village, Goulfira, fights against the ecological disaster that is affecting her native land. The brigade she leads goes to the heart of this new desert every autumn for a few months. Every day they walk many kilometers and plant thin branches in the dry sand in the hope that a bush will take root and stop the sand. Will Goulfira win this fight? Will the Nogai people and their land resist?
