The film is the compilation of five Russian animated films by Eduard Nazarov (Эдуард НАЗАРОВ), 1941-2016.
Five fables where the heroes juggle surprises, solidarity, friendship, and love.
- P'tit Hippo, 1975: A solitary hippopotamus envies the ants, bees, and rabbits who live in a community. Until he meets another hippopotamus!
- Martinko, 1987: A young deserter finds a magic deck of cards and becomes so wealthy that he reaches the king's palace. The princess falls in love with him, but is enraged to discover that he doesn't love her. She sets out to get rid of him...
- The Princess and the Ogre, 1977: Admirable weather, an unbearable princess. A wonderful clearing and a dreadful hut. In this hut, an ogre invites her to lunch, but faced with her beauty, he feels embarrassed. Or perhaps it's the other way around?
- Once Upon a Time There Was a Dog, 1982: Once upon a time there was a dog, yes, but a tired old dog, useless for scaring thieves. Driven out by his owners, the poor animal finds refuge in the forest, where he meets a wise and experienced wolf who will help him win back his owners' hearts.
- The Ant's Journey, 1983: To get rid of her, the caterpillar nibbles at the leaf on which the ant is perched. Carried away by the wind, the ant finds herself lost at the other end of the garden. Injured, she will have to rely on the solidarity of the other insects to get back home before sunset...
