On the eve of the French Revolution, Captain Fernand Masson dreams of putting the utopia of freedom into practice. Condemned by the government, as well as by the church, he escapes from prison and, elected leader of an army of former pirates, sails towards Madagascar. It is there that he is the first to proclaim: "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity" and founds the republic Libertalia.
