Plot synopsis
The Russian poet Nikolay Gumilyov, husband of the poet Anna Akhmatova, was executed in 1921 for participating in monarchist conspiracy. The African Hunt discloses new information about his execution that has been hitherto suppressed. Gumilyov was inspired by his fascination with heroic and exotic adventures, and aesthetics play a major role in his sensitive work. Gumilyov's death and the sad fate of his relatives are a drama that was experienced by many Russian intellectuals.
