The film’s three main characters
come from different generations
and different walks of life. One
thing unites them: their lives are
centered around work. More than that – their work is their life.
Eight hundred kilometres out of Moscow, on the northern edge of
the Kostroma Region, lumberjacks are cutting down trees. The felled
trees will be tied into 36 giant rafts, and as the ice breaks in April,
the current will take them downriver. That done, the men find the
time to tell unlikely stories about sea voyages to Africa, the beavers
of Kostroma, and Russia’s outer space.
