The film "Names" was shot over several years. The main character travels around the city and films people's faces with an 8mm camera. A young girl, while waiting for him, sorts out old letters. In addition to the letters from relatives, there are voices of people living at different times in different parts of the globe, poets and painters, as well as ordinary people who have not written anything from the letters. And among those he meets and films are two old lovers; a mime living in an attic; a young girl whose fiancé shortly after the wedding killed a madman in a monastery... The camera also has its history: it shot amateur films with the participation of the poet Leonid Aronzon and his wife Rita, the director Ponizovsky, the painter Yevgeny Mikhnov, who forms a friendly group of geniuses of the Leningrad underground.
