Plot synopsis
To join his beloved, peasant Varlam leaves his small town and goes to work in Moscow. He takes part in fist fights, where he is noticed by an Englishman, the owner of a football club, who offers him a contract. However, the team rejects the gruff Russian and Varlam decides to organize "his" football club. The action takes place at the beginning of the 20th century.
The true story of the first professional team, the Kolomenskoye Gymnastics Society, is at the heart of this sports drama. Very much imbued with Russian humor, the film by Andrei Bogatyrev and Art Camacho shows how football has become an important part of life in Russia.
