Plot synopsis
Story of the tragic fate of peasant girl Christina (Lyudmila Gurchenko) ... All her troubles began when she fell in love with the son of a rich man who out of hypocrisy and deception drove her out of the village and hired her to his friend's house, merchant living in the city. He, dazzled by Christina, kills his wife, and after offering her gifts, sends her back to the village. Soon Christina is accused of complicity in the murder. Although his guilt was not proven, all attempts to find a job were in vain, and her love and trust in people turned into betrayal and lies. The unfortunate woman's last refuge was Cafe Shantan, where devastated Christina entertained the well-fed audience, indifferent to her fate.
