Plot synopsis
1941. A Soviet merchant ship arrives in an Italian port. The sailor Roman goes down to the quay. In one of the squares he hears singing. Francesca is singing. The sailor is amazed by her voice and her beauty. That day they wandered for a long time in the streets and in the squares of the old town. And the next morning war was declared. The boat was to return to the USSR. The lovers struggled to separate but they were sure to meet again.
On the way back the boat is sunk by the Nazis. Only the foreman and Roman manage to survive. On land they are taken in by ordinary people. They participate in the Resistance. After the foreman's death we heard no more from Roman. Francesca believed him dead ...
But the war is over and the Soviet ship enters this port again. During a brief stopover Roman wants to find Francesca. His friends from the resistance group help him in his research. They saw each other but there was no time left: the boat was returning to the country. Francesca accompanied him to the pier. Will she see Roman again?
