The film is based on the tragic story of the well-known scientist and founder of the USSR Hydrometeorological Center Alexei Feodosyevich Vangengheim who was a victim of Stalin's purges in the 1930s on the usual charges of espionage and sabotage. The central theme of the story is his moving correspondence with his daughter Eleonora, in which he presents his imprisonment in the Solovki camp as a kind of journey, carefully describing the surrounding nature with the help of drawings and herbariums. Their aesthetics became the content of the film, made in a mixed technique of animation.
