Plot synopsis
Based on the eponymous short story by A.S. Pushkin.
Peasant revolt, images of popular anger - this is the emphasis that Ivanovsky was supposed to put in the film. The manuscript of the novel was found after Pushkin's death among his papers. It had no name and remained unfinished. The idea for "Dubrovsky" was sparked by a real incident.
Several versions of the novel's denouement have survived. Ivanovsky got acquainted with everyone and wrote his own: insurgent peasants kill the despot Troekurov.
