Screen version of the play of the same name by N. Chukovsky. The year of 1942. The Soviet sailors try to find a German submarine that mystically disappears after every attack. Katya, a senior pupil, together with boatswain finds a wounded captain-lieutenant who kindled a watch-fire every time the submarine entered the bay. The sailors destroy the German submarine.
