In Paris, Madame Collis, a very rich widow, leaves her entire fortune to her niece Maroussia who lives in Moscow. The fortune consists of shares in the Tripoli canal. The deceased's will indicates that Maroussia has a birthmark on her shoulder and that her identity papers are placed in a doll. Two pretenders to fortune, Pierre and Paul Cousinet, go to Moscow in search of Maroussia. They end up finding her but are unmasked by Maroussia's fiancé. It was then that we learned that the Tripoli canal company had gone bankrupt. The inheritance is reduced to nothing.
