In post-war Leningrad lived the poet Roald Mandelshtam. Since childhood he had suffered from bone tuberculosis, rarely left the house, and knew that he would not live long. His friends were the composer Isaak Schwartz and famous painters such as the "Arefeski Circle" and the "Order of Mendicant Painters".
