Vasya Novikov, a 12-year-old schoolboy, is secretly in love with a classmate and dreams of attracting her attention. Vasya's mother is mostly away at work, so he spends a lot of time with his father, who works at a biological station. With the arrival of his grandmother from the countryside, Vasya's life changes. Granny Polia turns out to be... a real witch! As she dies, she passes on her magical talents to Vasya but advises him to use them only for the good of people. The bleak reality is transfigured. Vasya suddenly realizes that he lives in an enchanted world where everything is possible and, intoxicated by his power, he begins to indulge in witchcraft. But very quickly, he understands that to become a good sorcerer, one must first overcome one's own fears, learn to appreciate one's friends and, if necessary, become a most ordinary hero, without any magic, what's more.
