This Russian-German film describes the story of three people, whose destinies intersected during the Second World War. He is an emigrant Russian aristocrat and member of the French Resistance, Olga, the French collaborator Jules and the SS officer Helmut.
Olga is arrested for hiding Jewish children during the fascist roundup. Jules takes care of his file. He likes Olga and he seems ready to soften his prison situation in exchange for intimate relationships, but that cannot be done. The hope of being freed runs up against the cruel reality: Olga is sent to a concentration camp. There she meets Helmut who in the past has been in love with her. Between them are formed strange and morbid relationships. The Nazis are on the verge of defeat and Helmut decides to save Olga and to flee with her to South America. Olga, who has lost all hope of freedom, accepts but at the last moment realizes that her vision of paradise has changed.
