Plot synopsis
Alexis Vronski, 28 years later, tells the story of the devouring love and the tragic end of his mistress Anna Karenina to the latter's son, Sergei Karenin. The film uses news and stories from the military doctor and writer V. Veressaev in which he describes, as an eyewitness, the events of the Russo-Japanese war. It’s Doctor S. Karenina speaking on behalf of Veressaev.
Manchuria in 1904, the Russo-Japanese War. Sergei Karenina takes over the management of the military field hospital which is under fire from Japanese artillery. In one of the injured officers, Karenina suddenly recognizes the man who once destroyed his family and caused the death of his mother, Colonel Alexis Vronski. They collide in a pivotal moment in history when the days of the Karenins and Vronski, the era of great passions and sophisticated worldly code are almost over. And at the same time, they comment on another tragedy, that of a woman dear to their hearts, Anna Karenina. They strive to unravel the mystery of the events of which both were protagonists, in order to understand how she had arrived at this tragic end, and to imagine if it would have been possible to change anything in this day fatal of June 3, 1876…
