Plot synopsis
Film parable.
Long ago, in some other life, the train was rushing the dreamer Sonia, a young Moscovite, to the Caucasus, to the house of her future husband, a strikingly handsome long voyage captain. Following the noisy and merry lavish Caucasian wedding the routine life began, full of joys, sorrows, resentments and holidays. Then war came to the Caucasus and everything except for fear lost significance. The captain went missing. Sofia and her mother-in-law Maria live from hand to mouth. After years of ordeal they get a chance to leave. In the train, Sofia gets to know Alexander. They fall in love. As for Maria, she realizes that her entire life is left behind in the mountains of the Caucasus. None of them knows that the new calamity is only hours away..
