The film tells how Marie, a German almost 70 years old, realizes how cruel the Second World War was. Mary visits her father's grave. On her way she meets people who suffered from hunger in the blockade of Leningrad, others who suffered from the occupation or were driven out to Germany. Can these people forgive, or do they continue to hate his country, his father who was a Wehrmacht soldier.
