Born on August 27, 1941 in the village of Kulykiv, Zhovkva district, Lviv region, Ukrainian SSR, USSR.
Graduated from the drama studio at the Lviv Theater named after M.K. Zankovetska (1961), studied at the philological faculty of the Lviv State University named after Ivan Franko (1963-1965), graduated from the theater studies faculty of the Kyiv Theater Institute named after I.K. Karpenko-Kary (1984).
In 1961-1978 - actor of the Lviv Ukrainian Drama Theater named after M.K. Zankovetska.
Since 1978 - artist of the Kyiv Academic Ukrainian Drama Theater named after Ivan Franko.
In 1999-2001 - Minister of Culture and Arts of Ukraine.
Since 2001 - Artistic Director of the Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theater.
In 2006-2010 - Artistic Director of the acting course at the I.K. Karpenko-Karyi KNUTKiT.
The life and work of the outstanding actor are the subject of documentaries: "Sempere tire", "I belong, I know, not to myself" (1988, directed by Stanislav Klimenko), "Bogdan Stupka. Lviv Chronicle" (1988, directed by Yuri Tereshchenko) and others.
