Il raconte la vie et le destin difficile de trois travailleuses solitaires, trois générations différentes, d'une fabrique de meubles à une époque où suite à la dernière guerre la population masculine était en net déficit.
Le film a connu un grand succès (36.6 millions de spectateurs, 6ème place).
