Plot synopsis
The film tells how in the iron vice of the blockade worked the "blood factory", the Institute of Blood Transfusion, which supplied the Leningrad front and the city with this strategic resource: blood donation. The blood connection between the city and its defenders was a very important factor that allowed to break the blockade and crush the enemy once and for all. As a result of a prolonged lack of food and great psychological stress, the blood of the inhabitants of Leningrad underwent phenomenal biochemical transformations that had consequences for the following generations. It is put forward the hypothesis, confirmed by the latest research of geneticists and biologists, that this forced "fast" of 900 days undergone by people during the blockade gave a post-war generation with a specific mentality and spirit of sacrifice of the inhabitants of St. Petersburg.
