Plot synopsis
Nikolai Dupak. Legendary director of the Taganka Drama and Comedy Theatre. His life story is also the history of the country. The son of a kulak who was a victim of repression, he found himself on the professional stage at the age of 15. He studied with Yuri Zavadsky and Vera Maretskaya, he starred in the films of the legendary Alexander Dovzhenko. Then came the war. He served in the cavalry. He was seriously wounded several times. After the war, he continued to study, worked for 20 years at the famous Stanislavsky Theatre and, finally, almost 30 years at the Taganka. Reprimands, dismissals from work, ups and downs - all this abounded in the life of Nikolai Dupak.
Yuri Lyubimov, at one time the main director of the Theatre, published a book of memoirs "Tales of an Old Gossip". On the cover was written a huge letter "YA" ("me" in Russian). Nikolai Dupak wants to call his book of memoirs "We". The book, like the film, focuses on the most remarkable episodes from the life of the legendary director. And the words of Vysotsky's song: "But all are alive, thank you Dupak" will serve as an epigraph.
