Nestled in the Transcaucasian hills of Azerbaijan and completely preserved in time, there remain a few villages founded by the Molokans - a Russian sect of Christians who rejected the practices of the Russian Orthodox Church and were exiled to the mountains by Tsar Nicholas I in the 1830s. The Molokans of the region, who once numbered in the thousands, have all but disappeared.
A student at the history department of Moscow State University, Dmitry Frolov decided to put together a film crew to film the remaining Molokans. The film aims to serve as a conduit for the local Molokans to trace their history for the benefit of their descendants scattered around the world.
