Plot synopsis
The Day of the Revival of the Karachaev People is a historical event that combines all the troubles suffered by the Karachaevs in deportation and the joy of returning to their historical homeland. Its greatest significance for the Karachaev people is connected with the national tragedy that took away almost half of the Karachaev population. On May 3, 1957 the first train bringing Karachaevs back from deportation arrived in their native land. The road to return was long, for 14 years the fathers and grandfathers fought for the right to return to their homes. The suffering and the wound did not die down in the depths of the Karachaevs' consciousness. In the village of Staraia Dzhegouta in the Karachay mountains before the war lived 12 members of the large Erkenov family. By the beginning of the war the parents had already died.
