A writer returning from the hunt finds a dying beggar in a dilapidated hut. The beggar tells about his life ... From childhood, serf Gabro was in the service of Prince Datiko. Together they went to the town where Datiko studied. Gabro was a devoted friend and a faithful servant. He once even saved Datiko while he was drowning in a river. After the death of her father, Datiko became the owner of her estate and her serfs. He dishonored Tamro, Gabro's fiancée, and sent him and his father to forced labor, accusing him of conspiring against him. On their way to forced labor, Gabro and his father are freed by a detachment of Abreks who attack the convoy. His father died soon after, and Gabro set off to find Tamro. Dishonored Tamro ends up in a city brothel. Hearing this, Gabro decides to avenge her. He kills Datiko in a duel.
