"The Orphans" is the story of 5 graduates of an orphanage trying to build a new life in a completely unfamiliar and unknown world for them. In Russia, the system of orphanages does not actually involve the adaptation of people to real life. Since infancy, children have been in semi-prison conditions, where they have no opportunity to acquire proper skills, make elementary independent decisions, and realize themselves as a separate and valuable person. That is why, being at liberty and in adulthood at the same time, the "orphans" mostly try to recreate the conditions of their usual prison. They sell the free apartments given to them by state, drink money out, flock together in common housing, become victims of countless scammers and die young. Our movie is an observation of the real life of 20–year-old former orphanages, their desperate attempts to build a normal life, find their parents and understand who they are.
