1238. A large army of the Golden Horde attacked the small Russian city of Kozelsk for two months. Thousands of Mongolian soldiers died and siege weapons were used - but the city still stood, showing the enemy the invincibility and firmness of the Russian spirit. After this battle, Khan Batu ordered that his name be forgotten forever and henceforth called the "evil city".
