Plot synopsis
1936 - Andrei Vyshinsky. Historical chronicles with Nikolai Svanidze Another year - 1936, another person - Andrei Yanuarievich Vyshinsky was born on November 28 (December 10), 1883 in Odessa, died on November 22, 1954 in New York, USA. Soon after his birth, the family moved to Baku.
In 1901, he entered the law faculty of Kyiv University, but graduated only in 1913, since he repeatedly dropped out of school. In 1903, he joined the Menshevik Party. After completing his studies, he taught in a private gymnasium in Baku and practiced law. After the February Revolution of 1917, he became the police commissioner of the Yakimansky district in Moscow. According to some sources, he signed the order to arrest Lenin if he was discovered in Moscow as a German spy. He joined the Bolsheviks only in 1920.
In 1925-1928, he was the rector of Moscow State University. Under him, "verification commissions" operated at the faculties, the autonomy of educational departments was reduced, and political propaganda work among students was intensified. As a result of the removal of the old professors from the university, the level of teaching declined. In the late 1920s, he worked in government agencies related to education.
Prosecutor in the Shakhty affair. From 1935, Prosecutor General of the USSR. He acted as a state prosecutor at all three Moscow trials of 1936-38; he was characterized by a tough style, unceremoniousness, and an initial confidence in the guilt of the defendants, for whom he openly expressed contempt. Roland Freisler, chairman of the "People's Court" in Nazi Germany, considered Vyshinsky to be his role model. From 1940, in the People's Commissariat of Foreign Affairs. In 1945, he was present at the capitulation of Germany. In 1949-1953, at the height of the initial stage of the Cold War and during the Korean War, he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the USSR. After Stalin's death, V. M. Molotov again became the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Vyshinsky was appointed the USSR representative to the UN. He died in New York and was buried in Red Square near the Kremlin Wall.
