Zoia is a journalist living on Sakhalin. She belongs to a small indigenous ethnic group: the Nivkhi. As a child, she was bullied by her classmates because of her ethnicity, which is why she left her hometown at the first opportunity. But now she's forced to return to Noglinki. During winter evenings with her mother, Zoia writes down the stories and legends of her people. Writing this book helps her accept herself as she is.
