Plot synopsis
A new construction supervisor, Zaitsev, arrives in a provincial town. He unexpectedly runs into his old comrades with whom he fought in the Civil War—Latsis, the timber rafting supervisor, and Glinka, the director of the paper mill. Construction of a new workshop begins at the mill. Zaitsev wants to speed up the work and, through bribery, arranges for the delivery of building materials through crooked people. Due to Zaitsev's negligence, a dam forms on the river down which the timber is being rafted. Luckily, Lacis manages to eliminate him...
