Based on the play "A Fairy Tale" by Ignatius Nikolaevich Potapenko.
Natasha Bobrova, having graduated from the Institute for Noble Maidens, returns home. But how gray, dreary, and full of boring worries her life seems! One day, Count Radomsky, the brother of her college friend, visits their family sewing studio. A dream of a wonderful life ignites in the girl's soul.
Alexander Uralsky's film is shot in the "Bauer" style: it features beloved Bauer actors, meticulously crafted and exquisite sets, and exquisitely choreographed dances. Vera Karalli's performance was particularly praised: "Her face is exceptionally expressive. It vividly reflects the full abundance of her emotional experiences," wrote a reviewer for the magazine "Rampa i Zhizn." In "Dream and Life," the thoughtful beauty and languor of the pre-revolutionary melodrama offer a final sunset glow. In the screening, the intertitles have been restored from the libretto and the original play.
