Based on Chekhov's short story of the same name. A noble family is in turmoil when the lady's expensive brooch disappears. The servants are under suspicion. The lady personally searches the maid and the doorman. She also doesn't hesitate to search the governess Masha's room. The offended girl decides to leave.
