After a ten-year interstellar flight, the astronauts returned home. 127 years have passed on Earth during this time, and everything has changed so much that they feel like useless and dangerous savages. As a result of the betrization procedure, which "switches off" natural aggression, Earth has completely overcome war, and significant scientific advances have eliminated most of the dangers threatening individuals. Society has become stable, and the world is sterile and comfortable. However, along with aggression, humanity has lost something even greater. In the new world, deep emotions, strong character, the ability to overcome oneself, and the capacity for superhuman effort are no longer needed. All these are vestiges, which humanity has successfully shed in just two generations. The protagonist faces a choice: embrace the values of the new society or become an outcast. Or perhaps fly off into space again, as the other returning astronauts plan?
