Plot synopsis
Leningrad. Summer 1970. Three people die unexpectedly — they burn to death in the courtyard of a research institute in front of dozens of witnesses. The city is frozen in horror. Major Vladimir Chubin is assigned to investigate this complicated case and is given an assistant from Moscow, Lieutenant Yegor Fedorov — the only person he can rely on in this case. The partners must find out whether the new serial killings are connected with the return of the cult of Chernobog, or whether they are facing an even greater evil.
