1942. Gavriil, an experienced Siberian hunter, learns that his son has gone missing. Desperate and enraged, Gavriil volunteers to go to the front, believing his son is alive and determined to find him. But instead of being sent to the front lines, he is appointed warrant officer in charge of a group of snipers, very young and inexperienced boys. Gavriil teaches them the art of shooting and gradually becomes like a father to them. But deep down, he still hopes to find his son. And for that purpose, he is ready to endure anything.
