Plot synopsis
A wealthy man marries a poor girl and thinks that by sparing her from poverty he has gained total authority over her. Disappointed, the girl retreats into silence and even considers killing him. Feeling guilty about this failed act, she falls ill and resigns herself to her fate. He finally understands that he loves her, but it is too late, she commits suicide by throwing herself out of the window, an icon in her hand.
