The story is based on the life of the Russian Orthodox saints Pyotr and Fevronia of Murom. The light of their love and loyalty continues to reach us. This holy couple lived their earthly life without ever parting. Humility, patience and wisdom allowed them to overcome all the difficult trials that fell to them. In their eternal life, their souls united to face the heavenly path. Since those ancient times, they have become the protectors of marriage in Holy Russia.
Note: These saints are said to have lived in the 13th century; they were canonized in 1547.
