A young farmer hounded by his creditors sees only one solution: go to Moscow to explain to the President himself that this situation, in the very interest of the country, cannot continue... He then sets off on a long journey through the Russian countryside in an old car accompanied, at first in spite of himself, by an old man from the village who has become a little crazy since the death of his son to the war. Through their many adventures, the failings of a rapidly changing Russian society are evoked, where lies and hypocrisy often contrast with the total sincerity of the two travelers.
