Plot synopsis
Based on a script by Ossip Brik, leader of the LEF group, Opium explicitly refers to Marx's phrase: "Religion is the opium of the people". Made from archive footage, the film takes the viewer from poppy fields and opium factories to religious buildings of various religions, to fortune tellers and their clients... At the same time, the police intervene during a demonstration and take workers to prison, etc.
