TV movie based on the short story of the same name by L. N. Tolstoy.
Officer Zhilin was sent to the Caucasus. He receives a letter from his mother and decides to take a leave to go home. But on the way he and another Russian officer, Kostylin, are caught by Tatars (through Kostylin's fault, who should have covered for Zhilin but ran away when he saw the Tatars). The Tatar who took the Russian officers prisoner sells them to another Tatar. They are locked in a barn with irons on their feet...
